WHISKEY DEAF
Whiskey Deaf is a Portland-based bluegrass and old-time string band featuring the fiery fiddling of Annie Staninec, who has toured the world performing with artists ranging from David Grisman to Molly Tuttle to Rod Stewart. She brings genuine joy and exuberance to every performance. Having played since the age of four, Annie is passionate about traditional fiddling across multiple genres, including bluegrass, Cajun, Irish, and old-time.
Joining her on stage is her partner John Kael, an award-winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a deep knowledge of traditional music and a vast repertoire of songs. Jeff Smith anchors the mandolin section; he has been performing bluegrass across the U.S. since his teen years, and his original songs have been recorded by numerous renowned artists, including Laurie Lewis. On bass is Patrick Lind, an accomplished fiddle, guitar, and bass player across multiple styles, who also contributes wonderful original songs written in the spirit of early country and bluegrass.
The members of Whiskey Deaf share an inexhaustible passion for bluegrass and its related traditions—and they genuinely love making music together. That joy shines through in every performance, and their show is guaranteed to put a smile on your face..
